Proactive: "Gold and silver should continue to shine amid market turmoil"

AuAg Funds CEO Eric Strand discusses the current trends in the gold and silver markets with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion.

Strand highlighted how recent market turmoil, such as the Yen carry trade unwinding and shifts in US employment numbers, have impacted precious metals. He emphasised the stability of gold despite minor downturns and predicted a strong momentum for gold as US interest rates are expected to lower.

Strand also highlighted significant buying activity from Asian markets, particularly China and India, alongside central banks' record purchases. He noted that the highest first half-year ever for central bank gold buying could signal another record year in 2024. Regarding silver, Strand pointed out its strong performance, driven by industrial demand and usage in solar power, despite recent volatility.

Strand shared insights on the performance of AuAg Funds' ETFs, stating that the silver mining ETF has outperformed both the gold mining ETF and the commodity itself. He attributed this success to stable precious metal prices and lower mining costs, which are expected to result in better margins and returns for mining stocks.

"Silver will catch up really fast when the market stabilises," said Strand.

EFN Direkt: What happens to gold and silver when the market is shaking?

När det stormar på börsen brukar guldets defensiva egenskaper lyftas fram. Hur det har fungerat den senaste veckan svarar Eric Strand, förvaltare på Au Ag fonder på.

Även om guldet stod emot bra igår när börserna rasade rejält så föll priset tillbaka något. En anledning till detta, enligt Eric Strand, kan vara att investerare som behöver täcka förluster i andra tillgångsslag behövde sälja guld.

Silverpriset föll däremot kraftigt. En anledning till detta kan vara att silverpriset har haft en bra utveckling det senaste året och att det var läge för vinsthemtagningar.

Proactive - AuAg Funds CEO says silver is likely to deliver better returns than gold this year

AuAg Funds CEO and founder Eric Strand discussed the positive performance and outlook for gold and silver in an interview with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion. 

Strand noted that gold prices are nearing the target range of $2475 to $2500, driven by substantial central bank purchases, especially by China, which is increasing its gold reserves while reducing US Treasury holdings. Other contributing factors include the US Federal Reserve's easing of monetary policies and significant deficit spending.

Silver has also performed well, with the gold-to-silver ratio improving from 87:1 to 70:1, aligning with AuAg's forecasts. Strand highlighted silver's dual role as both a monetary and industrial metal, emphasising its superior conductivity and the looming possibility of a physical shortage. This dual demand and potential shortage could drive prices higher.

Strand reported a strong performance for AuAg’s Silver Bullet fund, driven by the rising silver prices and the scarcity of primary silver miners. The fund has seen significant gains since early spring, despite a challenging start to the year. Although there may be short-term fluctuations due to market conditions, Strand remains optimistic about the fund's prospects.
